TheBasics

The Blue List is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides period products to people in need by partnering with organizations in New York City to ensure that quality resources are free and accessible for all people with periods.

We provide Care Kits and free-standing, preferred period products to our Partner Organizations on a quarterly basis. Care Kits are travel-sized bags containing 1-weeks worth of period products: tampons, pads, panty-liners, and a “just the facts” postcard about period health created with healthcare professionals.

In 1993, the West Side Campaign Against Hunger created the first customer choice “supermarket-style” food pantry in the United States, becoming the model for other programs across the country. Accessibility and convenience for the end user

We work with our partners to ensure products are easily accessible and within reach. Periods are a medical fact and people who get them should have consistent access to safe, cost-free products that work best for their body. We believe that personal preferences are important so we use data from users to shape our Care Kits.

Community Building and Supporting Partner Organizations

Through TheBasics we are able to support our partners in a myriad of ways. We deliver products quarterly, resolving storage issues common among nonprofit spaces and create a sustainable, waste-conscious system that provides products to be used in real time by those who have the greatest immediate need.

Education

We partner with healthcare professionals to provide factual information about period products and menstrual hygiene in a digestible format. We’re here to talk periods and eliminate stigma through education.

Advocacy

Access to resources lies at the core of inequality.  We believe creating equity is the only way to bridge widening gaps of inequality. This is the foundation of our advocacy.
